Funeral /Memorial

The loss of a loved one, family member or friend is a time of profound grief, often bringing sorrow, shock and sometimes release. Funeral or memorial services are an important way to honour a person’s life, to reflect, give thanks and to say goodbye to the physical body and form that they have been know as in this world.

‘I answer the heroic question 'Death, where is thy sting? ' with
'it is here in my heart and mind and memories.'

-Maya Angelou

In creating funeral ceremonies, I meet with the family of the departed to learn about their journey through life- the important moments and relationships, the joys and challenges, their beliefs and values, and how they touched the lives of others. I support the drawing together of a service that can authentically celebrate the life of the deceased and provide comfort and solace to those who are grieving their loss, in ways that are meaningful and sensitive to the beliefs of all involved.

In Ireland today there are many ways to mark the end of a person’s life such as- burial, cremation, scattering of ashes, eco- burial and memorial of bodies donated to science. Services can be held in funeral homes, crematoriums, graveside or other venue of your choice.  I can support families to honour the wishes of their loved ones, or to navigate the choices in what can be confusing and tender times.

I also offer services to people who wish to reflect on and plan their own end of life ceremonies. This can be a very powerful and helpful process to undertake.
